Life IGIC participated in the dissemination event held by University of Crete and Natural History Museum of Crete at 23/5/2022 for celebrating 30 years since the formation of the ecological network NATURA 2000 and the EU funding scheme LIFE.
The event took place at the exhibition center of Natural History Museum of Crete in Heraklion from 10am to 5 pm local time. It included slide presentations, tv spots, photographs and information banners related to the project as well as distribution of informative material of related projects such as LIFE Bonelli east Med, LIFE IGIC, LIFE GRECABAT, LIFE NewLife4Drylands, LIFE Natura Themis & LIFE Natura 2000 Value Crete. Visitors had the chance to discuss with project’s members about several topics such as flora and fauna of Crete, biodiversity and habitats conservation, current environmental law and the ability of citizens to participate actively in the protection of the environment. Furthermore, desertification of natural and agricultural land was discussed along with proposed solutions, such as green infrastructure establishment and further nature-based solutions.
At the same day a meeting with teachers and students of the elementary school of Varypetro, Chania which were introduced to the NATURA 2000 project and guided at the Natural History Museum exhibition.
